Virtual Objects

This section contains a collection of virtual objects designed in virtual reality modeling language (VRML). Students create these rainforest objects. The principles guiding this practice are based on constructionist ideas and assume that individuals learn better when they are engaged in the active construction of information objects (see Resnick and Negroponte). The objects are built using VRML 2.0. To view them you will need the VRML add-on for Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, or Cosmo Player 2.0 from Silicon Graphics for Netscape.

This is the virtual paddle and represents the type used in the upper Amazon. Notice the unusual shape and try to think of the functionality aspects that drove the design.
The virtual hut represents the type typically seen in this area. Schools and other buildings in small towns and villages are adaptations from this basic design.
