About this Site

This site is a further development in project based learning. It has its roots in the Galileo's Web project developed by the Center for Technology in Teaching and Learning at the Rice School/La Escuela Rice.

These pages share with you the work of students and teachers in the science department at Hogg Middle School, in Houston, Texas. in a course that takes the tropical rainforest in the upper Amazon as a model for development of pedagogical materials. The students enrolled in this course use a series of journal entries from Dr. Carlos Solís' travels to the Amazon as a starting point for cooperative explorations and team work, as they produce documents for the World Wide Web. The facilitators for this course are, Ms. Paula Cooper, from the Hogg Middle School, and Dr. Carlos R. Solís from the Center for Technology in Teaching and Learning, at Rice University.
